festive fall flower boxes

festive fall flower boxes
Steve and I recently took a little vacation and toured part of New England.  During our travels, I stumbled upon a number of fabulous window boxes and planters.  I love all the colors, textures and over-flowing greens.  Here’s a little slide show of my favs… This beauty belongs to a fabulous store, Nomad in Cambridge, MA. The gardens around Beacon Hill in Boston were gorgeous. A welcoming restaurant in Providence, RI. A little town .

sweet treats that’ll make you smile

sweet treats that’ll make you smile
Steve and I stopped by the Ferndale Art Fair this past Sunday and stumbled upon this super-cute bakery.  The window displays, color palette and lovely decor couldn’t be more inviting. I indulged in a carrot cake-cream cheese frosted cupcake and Steve had large chocolate chip cookie.  They were both very tasty. Another pleasant surprise was our bill…  only 2.92! So next time you have a craving for a little sweet treat, I highly recommend .

magical places for you and your muse

magical places for you and your muse
Meet Bob Thomas, folk artist extraorndinaire, of Monumental Finds in Frankfort, Michigan. Steve and I were headed back home from our recent ‘up-north adventure’ when we drove by these amazing creations.  By the expression on my face, he knew there was a U-turn that needed to happen. (almost 9 years of marriage will do that to ya) Bob’s shop is full of miscellaneous antiques and embellishments he finds in the Shenandoah Valley. And in .

domaci gallery – worth the drive
Meet Mary & Tim Pritchard of Domaci Gallery in Rogers City, Michigan.  Steve and I met Mary & Tim years ago while doing the ‘art fair circuit’ and have kept in touch ever since.  This past winter I got a phone call from Mary with some exciting news… They bought a beautiful old building and were opening a gallery! We finally took a road trip up north this week and got to see their .

Each time I visit New York, I always make a point to stroll by the Anthropologie store windows near the Rockefeller Center.  They’re really quite works of art and always inspire me.  A few of the windows had a sewing theme.  There are random scissors tied to the ends of the cut fabric hanging down. I like all the various sizes and colors of the thread spools attached to the wall. I wish I .

It was only a matter of time before I turned my two friends, Michelle and Jenni into Infinity Shoe junkies.  Now every time we’re in the NYC for the gift fair we trek down Broadway to visit the home of Miz Mooz shoes. This time all of us left with two pairs of super cute soles. Here are Michelle’s picks… Karina Penelope Here are Jenni’s picks… Billie Jean Banquet And finally, my splurges… Patty .

les paul – a living legend

les paul – a living legend
Since my sweetie, Steve has been diligently playing and practicing the guitar for the past four years, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the famous Les Paul perform live at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York during our recent stay. At age 92, this living legend plays two shows every Monday and signs autographs afterwards.  What a gracious guy! Here’s an entertaining segment of a wonderful PBS special about Les. Some .

Retailer Excellence Awards in NYC

Retailer Excellence Awards in NYC
During our recent trip to the New York International Gift Fair, Steve and I were honored to attend Gifts & Decorative ACCESSORIES Magazine Retailer Excellence Awards held at Tavern on the Green (the famous restaurant in Central Park). Catching Fireflies was one of finalists in the category Bricks ‘n’ Clicks: Integrated Marketing. We were chosen because of how we use our website, blog and enews to promote our physical stores and vice-versa. This is .

I had the chance to attend the Detroit Urban Craft Fair this weekend and was introduced to a whole new subculture of the craft world. This rather new event is put on by a group of crafty chicas that go by the name of Handmade Detroit.  A lot of these crafters are very connected online with blogs and have individual shops on Etsy (a online store where you can sell and buy handmade goods) .

wonderful window boxes

wonderful window boxes
On a recent trip to West Michigan, Steve and I toured through a number of lakeshore towns.  Many of the store fronts had fantastic flower boxes. I love seeing the variety of flowers and greens mixed together… there’s so many rich textures and vibrant colors. …just look at all the shades of purples and blues, not to mention the limes, olives and greens… God has quite the color palette. These pots were too pretty .
