cranbrook gardens
I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I've never been to the Cranbrook Gardens. So instead of spending Sunday weeding my own neglected garden, I convinced Steve to peddle our way over to Lone Pine Road for an afternoon adventure.
All the gardens were gorgeous and I love all the water fountains & ponds throughout the landscape… makes for a very peaceful sounding environment. Plus on our bike ride to and from we passed by loads of lovely homes with beautiful landscapes and overstuffed flower boxes.
Sunday summer afternoons… a great time to slow down and enjoy nature's gifts all around you.
(thanks Ryan & Sarah for reminding us to visit this magical place)

sweet summer days
Finally got to the theater this weekend to see this delightful film. I dragged Steve with me (even though it's a bit of a girly movie)… but he ended up liking it and I loved it – especially the music. I mean who can resist a Hall & Oates inspired dance scene – complete with a cartoon bluebird!?
I swear these 80's hipsters have some of the catchiest tunes around!
I also dig the song by Mumm-ra, "She's Got You High"
So if you're in the mood for an artsy 'non-love' story, take an afternoon off and treat yourself to a matinee this week. I think you'll come out of the theater with a smile on your face.

sassy summer shoe sale
Just got an email alert from my favorite shoe store and found out these marvelous Miz Mooz shoes are on sale! Can't wait to try some of these sweeties on in August when I go to NYC for the gift show.

not your ordinary birthday cake
Sandy, our Rochester team member, was surprised by a most interesting bouquet for her birthday… a piece of birthday cake created from flowers! Which got me thinking… what are our creative florists up to these days?
Turns out… some pretty tasty looking creations. What will they think of next? I think a fast food meal would be quite entertaining – after all they already figured out how to do a mug of beer!
I found these pretties at 1800flowers.com and fromyouflowers.com.

grizzly bear (not the campin’ kind)
I cannot get enough of Grizzly Bear's latest release, 2 weeks. So if you see me singing "aoho-aho-ahoa" around the store, know I'm not going crazy:)
A review reads, "The neo-classical precision of Grizzly Bear’s music—the feeling that
its choral harmonies, woozy orchestrations, and slippery waltz
signatures aren’t just written, but composed. It’s like hearing the past few centuries of music playing in symphony,
which sounds—thrillingly and reassuringly—like the future." by Sean ONeal

2009 ann arbor art fair picks
Before heading up north to Petoskey to sell my handmade paper goods in an art fair this past weekend, I managed to squeeze in a few hours touring through this year's Ann Arbor art fair on Friday. Here are some new artists I discovered…
Suze Ford painting to please the soul, the mind and the eye, but not the ego
Weener Ware kitschy jewelry, hair clips, cuff links and more
Metro Devious – see Detroit in a different light
Candace Compton Pappas … also great photos of her art on Flickr
Kathrine Allen Coleman telling a story through dresses
Cherly Gail Toh dreamy encaustic paintings
and my very very very favorite new find: Faerie House

andy stanley
One surprise about our last Atlanta trip was that our hotel was right next door to Buckhead Church. I couldn't believe it, since I listen to the pastor's podcasts on a regular basis. So we actually got to attend the Sunday evening service after the gift show.
I also realized he even has his own YouTube channel that features very relatable messages about worry, marriage, finances and more. I personally find Andy Stanley's teachings incredibly valuable and they truly enrich my life in all areas.

remember lite brite?
The Fincannons introduced me to one of Atlanta's popular local bands, YOU and I was amazed by their latest music video – Movie Kiss.
It contains more than 2,400 unique Lite Brite images animated together! Now that's artistic patience.

atlanta adventures
One of the benefits of visiting Atlanta twice a year (besides buying loads of snazzy new goodies for catching fireflies) is we get to see our artist friends, Karen & Paul Fincannon. This time around I got to visit them at the Buckhead Farmer's Market.
I love Karen's wide collection of whimsical wares. She's always creating something new… her latest collection being these quirky & oh-so-endearing dogs. And lucky for you, she offers some of her goodies on her etsy site.
In addition to visiting with Paul & Karen, I also indulged in an amazing almond croissant & cinnamon twist from the well known H & F Bakery… plus enjoyed other local artist's goods. It was a perfect way to start my Saturday morning before cruising to the wholesale gift show.
