a giant cake to celebrate

Since the Rochester store is turning four this spring, I turned to my trusty stack of pink insulation board to craft them a giant cake for their store window.

And along with the cake came the rest of our outdoor spring props…

celebrating sara

Sara5

With a sad, yet happy heart we'd like to celebrate our time with Miss Sara Hartman as she is moving on to a season of new adventures.   For the past three and a half years, she has been the wizard behind the curtain of catching fireflies.com.

Sara4
People often ask me, "How do you do it all?"  My answer is always – having great people like Sara (and the other wonderful managers) on my team.  So when you read those clever firefly facts, or are perusing the pretty pictures on our website, or need help placing an online order — it was Sara that was making your day brighter.

Sara2
Luckily Sara was a good sport about all our goofy blog postings;)

Sara1
She's been a faithful Mega March team member (along with her super-dog, Lucy) for the past three years helping us raise lots of funds for the Michigan Humane Society.  And just recently she helped us pass out Valentines to local seniors.

Sara3

Sara6
She was with us the first time we were voted Best Gift Shop by HOUR Detroit magazine and even snagged a photo with the now infamous Mr. Kilpatrick at the Best of Detroit party.  Sex & the City movie outings, Christmas party pool challenges and tearin' up the dance floor with Danielle… fun, fun memories.

Thank you Sara for sharing these past years with us.  Your kind heart, curious mind and positive attitude will always be part of the catching fireflies story.  We wish you all the best in your next chapter of life.

three swingin’ siblings with lots of style

Kitty

It's hard not to take a trip back in time and tap your toes to this swingin' sibling group from the UK.

A review reads, "Three London teenagers playing blues and rockabilly cover versions in a
manner so Luddite that it's as if Cliff Richard never happened, Kitty,
Daisy & Lewis
should be no more than a cute thing that makes all
the parents go 'Ahhh!' at a local community street party. But, instead,
they're a brilliant recording act. It makes no bloody sense, quite
frankly.

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis transcend everything ordinary about pop,
including any spurious Quest For Authenticity, and I can't give you any
solid reason why. They're just a gift to those of us that still believe
in magic." –Garry Mulholland

Cook up a storm with these kitchen items

-Judith Solomon

(excerpt)

When the weather outside is frightful, it can be delightful to hunker
down in your kitchen and cook up a storm. (And, of course, that's
infinitely preferable to being out in the storm.) So here are a few
items.
