The Gift Insider: Fox 2 Segment Feature
How
annoying is it when you have a drink in your hand at a cocktail party
and have to pass up all the delish apps you see everyone else eating. Why settle for one or the other? These Wine Glass Top Appetizer Plates solve this problem entirely. $16.95
I love these “Gardens in a Bag” gifts. Thank you gifts are always a little tough. When you are thanking someone, most don’t expect an expensive or fancy gift. That’s why this $8.99 gift is perfect. It’s still thoughtful and shows your appreciation, but a perfect cheap price point.
Thanks Lindsay for chatting up our lovely summer hostess gifts!
driving outside in the sunshine
Since Steve & I were about to embark on a 12 hour road trip to the Atlanta Gift Show, I cruised itunes to pick up a few fresh songs before we left and this sunshinee groove by The Cults was one of them.
A review reads, "Cults music
is a throwback, an enigma, sunny and soulful, something you might hear
in San Francisco in the seventies, if you flipped through Joan Didion’s
“Slouching Towards Bethlehem” really fast, if you stood for a while,
maybe waiting for someone important, in front of a street glockenspiel
player, and then gave the guy some cash when your lover didn’t show.
You would walk home whistling that little glockenspiel line. You would
think about driving somewhere far away, whose car you could borrow, who
you would bring with you. When you got home you’d open all the windows
and write a sad song with lots of echoey guitar, record the paranoid
ramblings of some televangelist off your TV, sing/sigh some moody
lyrics. That song would be “Go Outside.”

15 ways to beat the summer boredom blues
So it’s mid July… have you begun hearing that wonderful phrase, “I’m bored” from your kiddos yet? If so, maybe it’s time for a whimsical field trip to catching fireflies! Here’s a peak of a few of our summer-fun finds.
Got a camping trip planned? Fill up a recycled Capri Sun bag with goodies like our Whirly Wheel & Reel Roaster.
Zartz are a fantastical fun game to play inside & outside – in the sand or on the grass!
Going to Grandmas for the weekend? Fill a fun retro lunchbox with goodies like these terribly addicting ZeeBeez!
Mom & Dad can kick back in their lawn chair & enjoy a cold one while the kids challenge each other with Flip-n-Stack Monkeys.
And after a busy afternoon of play, you’ll need a cool treat like a bling pop, icy slush, rocket pop, motorized ice cream cone or zoo pops to refresh you for an exciting night.
And for more fun, trade some treat themed crazy bands, and ice cream cone earrings… then cool off with an ice cream cone fan;)
End the day with a game of glow-in-the-dark frisbee, followed by catching fireflies. Watch them in your lantern or wear them around your neck!
Tomorrows agenda? Another day of summer fun!

helping create hope one bracelet at a time
Wear jewelry that makes a difference!
We're thrilled to offer these beautiful recycled bracelets, necklaces & earrings made by the talented women of Uganda.
The money made from selling jewelry goes to providing education to both the women and their children and assisting
the women to establish business opportunities to promote economic
stability and sustainability.
Founder Karen Sparacio talks about Project Have Hope–how she came to
found the organization, what its mission and ongoing work are, and the
successes of the women and children in the program.
All the items pictured are available at our Rochester & Berkly locations and select bracelets are available online.

my plymouth art fair picks
For the first time in a long while, I got to attend the Plymouth Art Fair. Normally Steve & I are always at the Atlanta Gift show during the dates, but since there are 5 weekends in July… it didn't overlap this year.
So, my 1st stop was Heart to Heart. I bought one of thier fantastic bird house stakes a few years ago and my mom always comments how she loves it. And since this is one of the few Michigan show they do – I nabbed one for her birthday this July!
Lucky Steve got to carry it around the fair. A few passer-by comments included… "So how many birds have landed on you?" "Nice walking stick" and "Where is that booth!?"
What a trooper;) Just another reason why I love him.
Burlap has never looked so chic at the Burlap Boutique.
Lots of fun frills at Thrifty Trixie.
Wonderfully whimsy creations by Jelli Beans & Rosebuds
Hip collars for hot dogs – Dog Gone It
Vintage looking with a modern flair – Go Jump in the Lake signs
Simply fantastic handbags by The Poppy Bag Co.
He He He:) Silly signs & such by Tammy Floyd.
Love the flowery jewelry by Chloe Lane Studio.
Fabulous funky finds at Flossa Boutique
And I must say… I was totally impressed with the student artist section. Such clever entrepreneurial gals!
Trisha makes juice box wallets, posy pens & classic pot holders.
Natalie's balloon embellished flip flops were very popular.
Amy & Jenna even sell their cute creatures on Etsy!
And Elizabeth is quite the card maker!
After all that shopping, you're bound to work up an appetite. I highly recommend stopping by Simple Sandwich. I think they make some of the tastiest sandwiches around town.

the family collage
I made a stop by Northville this weekend for the Art in the Sun show and stumbled upon this out-of-the-box photographer…
Talk about an orignal family portrait! She takes over 1000 photos of your family then assembles an large collage by layering hundreds of the shots to create a very whimsical scene that's unforgettable.

rockin’ with the black keys
These two Ohio boys pack a-lotta-punch for just a 2 piece band. Lovin' their latest release, Tighten Up from the Brothers Album.
A review from Slant Magazine reads, "An album that works as both a blisteringly smart genre study that
combines classic and contemporary perspectives on blues, soul, and
R&B and as just one hell of a rock record, Brothers reaffirms that the Black Keys belong in any serious conversation about America's finest bands." – Jonathan Keefe
