Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, wouldn’t it be wonderful to make multiple moms’ days? We thought so… so we’re partnering with Lighthouse of Oakland County and collecting various supplies for new mom’s in need.
Here’s how it works…
We’re accepting supplies at our Berkley & Rochester locations through May 8. Needed items include: diapers/pull-ups, baby shampoo, soap & lotion, baby wipes, bottles, teethers & new blankets.

tempting turtle cake
This rich-rich-rich recipe was submitted by one of our Yellow Door artists and after we posted it, we got LOTS-O-COMMENTS on facebook so I decided to whip one up for a recent event at our sister store, Yellow Door Art Market.
Here’s what ya need…
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 14 oz. bag of caramels
1 5 oz. can of evaporated milk
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup pecans
1 stick butter
chocolate frosting or powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350o. Grease and flour 9″x13″ pan. Prepare cake mix according to directions. Pour 1/2 of batter into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes. Melt caramels in a heavy sauce pan with milk and butter. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over baked cake, pour caramel mixture over chocolate and nuts. Spread remaining batter over all and return to oven and bake for another 25 minutes. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Delivering Smiles on Valentine’s Day
Thanks to all our generous & crafty firefly fans, we were able to deliver LOTS of handmade cards to the kids at Children’s Hospital.
Kudos to all the families & groups like… Orion Oaks Elementary, North Oakland YMCA, Girl Scout Troop 40495, Delta Kelly Students, SCHS Student Council, Little Lambs at Christ Church Cranbook, Angell Elementary, Renaisannce High School, Roots & Shoots, International Academy of Macomb, Best Academy of Highland Park, Great Lakes Academy and MANY MORE.
Since we were in the neighborhood, we scheduled in a tasty lunch at Good Girls Go To Paris Crepes. There are so many delicious options, it was hard to choose just one.
We left the card deliveries to the nurses & doctors, however we spent some time in the activities center with the kids & helped them decorate mail boxes to put their cards in.
During our stay we got to see Yellow Door Artist, Gretchen Kramp’s amazing tile installation. It’s simply stunning & so uplifting.
Child Life Projects Specialist, Deanna Scanlon shared, “Just wanted to let you know that Valentine’s Day here at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan was a HUGE success! Thank you so much! We have managed to give away most of the cards so far! So many patients, families and the staff had made positive comments! It’s just awesome! It would not have been possible without your efforts! You are truly appreciated! Happy Valentine’s day to you!”

So I had to wait to post these pretty hand painted heart photo holders made by the lovely Dena Gillespie because I didn’t want my friends or family to get a peek at what the postman was delivering for V-Day.
Ever since I was little I loved this holiday & still do… so every year I put on my cupid wings a shoot an arrow through the icy cold weather so I can warm the hearts of the ones I love:) xoxoxo

cupid is going to be BUSY!
A BIG thank you to all the crafty kids & adults who brought us LOADS of Valentine cards for patients at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. It’s safe to say that the magical glitter, bright markers, shiny stickers & fun foam embellishments will bring much joy to the kids who have to spend their holiday in the hospital.
