goody blog feature
Mary Jo Dilonardo, family and education editor from Atlanta Magazine, raved about our brag board on the very popular Parent’s Magazine GoodyBlog.
"From the time my son discovered finger paints to today when he’s bringing home art projects from school, we’ve run out of room on the refrigerator (and on the walls and the coffee table and the kitchen counter…) for his latest and greatest creations. That’s why I adore “The Latest Masterpiece” brag board from a.i. paper design. The colorful clipboard lets you hang the opus du jour from a fancy frame, changing it out anytime you want. It makes your kid feel special and it’s actually very cool."
Thank you Mary Jo for the fabulous review!
rare bird finds feature
Sharla from Rare Bird Finds thinks our Constructive Utensil Set is pretty swell. She says, "It’s perfect for picky eaters and if nothing else, will make mealtime more fun."
Thank you for giving your readers the dish on these hard-working utensils.
pumpkin fun
When you’re out and about gathering up your pumpkins for Halloween, don’t forget to pick up an extra one for Thanksgiving. This tubby turkey would look awful cute on your dinner table. These eight piece turkey sets are available at our Berkley and Rochester locations.
And if you’re looking to have a little fun with your pumpkin carving this fall, I suggest you check out these wild photos from ExtremePumpkins.com for inspiration.

I know this one is a little pg-13… but it made me giggle.
I bet you never saw a pumpkin give birth before… I always wondered where all those small gourd pumpkins came from:-)
Thanks for sharing these silly photos with me Ellen!

humane society mega march 2007
Meet team catching fireflies… Steve, April, Danielle, Sara, Judy, Courtney, Angela, Chrisina and Melissa. With the help of your generous donations we raised over $1300 for the Michigan Humane Society at the Mega March in downtown Detroit on October 7th 2007. Thank you so much for your support. We had lots of fun struttin’ doggies around town and would like to share some fun photos we took throughout the day.
It was a super steamy day for October (in the 80’s before noon!) but that didn’t stop the poochies from socializing.
Lots of cute canines were all decked out for the big event.
But most just relied on their natural good looks.
Good thing Campus Martius Park was along the walking path. Samson was already tired out from the heat so Steve hung with him while we continued on with the march.
The park was all prettied up for fall, so Courtney and Roxy posed for a picture.
Other dogs got their paws wet in the fountain.
Lots of pet lovers showed their support.
We even bumped into a cat out on the stroll.
And check out this crazy brood!
Groups of cheerleaders congratulated the dogs as they made their way back to Hart Plaza.
Swimming pools and water bowls were the popular choice after the 2 mile jaunt.
Samson proceeded to take a long Sunday afternoon nap in front of fan.
samson helps out at the studio
I brought our bully, Samson to the studio this past Friday to entertain our staff while I finished up designing the rest of my 2008 designs.
He was eager to help our shipper, Natalie pull some wholesale orders.
That is until he found an empty wrapping paper roll to run around with.
I kept busy putting the final touches on the new photo albums.
… over 20 new brag book styles
…and a new look for the baby books
… plus 22 new cute clip frame designs
My plan is to have all these pretties available at catching fireflies by early December. Be on the lookout!

bring on the bling – girl’s night out
Lots of ladies had loads of fun at our recent Girl’s Night Out.
We had pretty princesses of all ages tour through our Rochester location. Catching fireflies was 1 of 46 shops & salons participating in the event.
We passed out colorful necklaces, cider & donuts and our favorite acoustic guitar guy, Eric Fritts serenaded the ladies with his smooth (and sometimes silly) tunes.
He even played some Neil Diamond for our manager, Dena… good ole Sweet Caroline.
Fun times were had by all!
flowery fall flats
Steve and I made our way to one of our favorite fall stops, Parmenter’s Northville Cider Mill, this weekend. And since we were so close to Lorla’s, I couldn’t resist sneaking a peek of her latest collection of fancy footwear.
I ended up going home with these cuties. Samson agreed… they looked delicious on my tootsies.
pretty-darn-cute pewter goods
Meet Kaycee Binns of Metal Morphosis. She creates whimsical pewter goods like no other.
A portion of her bio reads, "In 1993 I was waiting tables at a café with a dream of someday pursuing my passion for metalsmithing. After being invited to a friend’s baby shower and having no money for a gift, I melted down some left over sterling silver and created a rabbit-themed baby spoon. To my surprise, the spoon was a hit! During the shower, I was approached by a giftware representative about the prospect of creating and selling my little spoons. I was so thrilled with the idea that I took my Honda Civic to the bank, got a loan for $8,000.00, and I began Metal Morphosis, Inc."
Many of Kaycee’s products stem from childhood stories which really makes every piece unique.
All of her products are made entirely in the USA. Everything is casted in Rhode Island and hand finished in Atlanta. Nothing is outsourced, not even the packaging. The unique way they finish the pewter and the fact that the pewter actually has a percentage of sterling silver really gives it that exceptional shine. All of the materials are FDA approved and can easily be polished with a pewter polish found in your local hardware stores.
You can find Kaycee’s pewter goods in our kitchen, baby, dog, guy and trinket sections.
