what kind of world do you want?

what kind of world do you want?
John Ondrasik from Five for Fighting asked that question in a song not too long ago and soon after a website by the same name was born. At whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com, people of all ages sent in videos answering that question and they’ve posted the top entries for you to view.  Just by watching the videos, a small amount of money from the sponsor goes to select charities. A quote from the site states, "We are .

oh-so-funny… flight of the conchords

oh-so-funny… flight of the conchords
I immediately fell in love with HBO’s new series – Flight of the Conchords.  It has a slight Napoleon Dynamite flavor mixed in with some seriously funny folk songs. One of my favorites is Beautiful Girl… Unfortunately they don’t have a current CD available yet, but you can find some of their other funny clips on their fan site What the Folk! (and loads of them on YouTube) A review from the New York .

john mayer + 3rd row = good times

john mayer + 3rd row = good times
Most of you are probably saying, "Great… another John Mayer post" but I couldn’t resist showing off my shared stage moment (albeit on a video screen)with Mr. Mayer.  I just happened to be taping the first song that turned me on to John, No Such Thing, when Mr. Video Man scanned our row… what are the odds? One of my favorite moments is when he played Stop This Train during the encore.  I love .

catch the fever

catch the fever
Steve and I are headed out on an impromptu road trip to the beaches of West Michigan for the next few days… which means I need to line up my summer listening tunes. …one of them being from this brand new spankin’ band, The Young Immortals.  The Fever has that infectious beat and fun hook that lures you to sing out loud with the wind blowing through your hair speeding down the highway. Want .

dads & daughters

dads & daughters
Happy Father’s Day!  Here’s a photo from a past Father’s Day outing with my dad at Michigan International Speedway. I’d thought I share this heartwarming song from Paul Simon to celebrate Dad’s Day.  Father & Daughter If you leap awakeIn the mirror of a bad dreamAnd for a fraction of a secondYou can’t remember where you areJust open your window And follow your memory upstreamTo the meadow in the mountainWhere we counted every falling .

turin brakes brings the sunshine

turin brakes brings the sunshine
Ahhhh… summer – driving 45 mph with the windows down, laying in the hammock reading your favorite magazine, having dinner on the deck and enjoying the soothing sounds of Turin Brakes. I love their song, They Can’t Buy the Sunshine. Enjoy these great lyrics and kick-back grooves. A review reads, "OK everyone calm down– summer’s officially here. Go swimming, catch fireflies…hell, even go to Lowe’s and buy those plastic tiki torches that give suburbanites .

keane concert = ear & eye candy

keane concert = ear & eye candy
I’ve always really enjoyed Keane’s music, but they moved up a number of levels on my favorite musician’s list after I witnessed their amazing concert at the State Theater in Detroit the other night. I didn’t bring my camera to the show, but I found some snips of other shows they performed at recently on wonderful YouTube. This was their first release off their second album, Under the Iron Sea – Is it any .

mr. blue sky – how I love you

mr. blue sky – how I love you
Every spring I break out my favorite ELO song, Mr. Blue Sky to celebrate the warm and sunny season. Seventy-five degree days are always the sweetest in the month of April because I don’t take them for granted.  (It wasn’t too long ago when it was snowing on Easter!) So I welcome you to listen to this stellar seventies band while perusing some of my Sunday afternoon backyard pics. (I can see why my .

kathleen edwards rocks it out

kathleen edwards rocks it out
Steve and I were introduced to the music of Kathleen Edwards when she opened for my Mr. John Mayer in London, Ontario last Sunday.  She’s one rockin’ gal who knows how to deliver a song. Here’s a video of her latest release Back to Me. A review reads, "Along with her reckless vocals, Edwards’ insistence that place can affect identity and emotion has earned her numerous comparisons to Lucinda Williams, and her empathetic depiction .

martin sexton makes sweet music

martin sexton makes sweet music
Steve and I headed down to Ann Arbor yesterday evening to enjoy a wonderful concert at the lovely Michigan Theater. Martin didn’t disappoint (neither did his opening act, Willy Porter – but more on him in a future post) He played a lot of his new material off his album, Seeds but one of my favorites is Diggin Me off The American.  I found a live version of that song to share with you. .
