quaint cortez florida

quaint cortez florida
Steve and I managed to escape the grey skies of Michigan recently by jetting down to the keys of Sarasota, Florida. One of the reasons we chose to visit this area is because of a lovely store on St. Armand’s Key that sells lots of our a.i. paper design products.  After experiencing the St. Armand’s shopping district, I can see why they’re so successful. Being the restless soul that I am, I can only .

toolin’ around new york

toolin’ around new york
Even though I spend the majority of my time in New York selling my handmade wares, I always manage to squeeze some shopping in.While window shopping in Soho, I stumbled upon one of my favorite independent clothing lines, Beebop & Wally on a street corner.  We used to carry a few of their jackets at catching fireflies so I was happy I could snatch another one.  I love that robin egg blue color. And .

Leave it to the windows artists behind New York’s premier Anthropologie store to make me think of spring (all while I’m donning a scarf, mittens, hat and wool jacket) Who wouldn’t want to take a snooze under a canopy of perfectly cut blue leaves? (…if you weren’t in a store window of course) I might have to steal this swing idea for my summer windows. Fields of lavender are printed on the hanging background .

super bowl in the city

super bowl in the city
Since Steve and I were in New York for the Super Bowl, we watched a bit of it on the jumbo screen in Times Square. While he was busy watching the game, I was more interested in the commercials.  This is my pick of the evening. After the Giants won, we made our way back to Times Square to observe the craziness… which included honking horns, hearty chants, loud cheers and some random crowd .

2 week trade show tour

2 week trade show tour
Ahhhh… after 2 weeks of traveling to 3 different cities, it feels good to be back in my own bed again – at least until next Wednesday when it’s off to NYC. First tour stop – Atlanta Our neighbor, Rebecca Wood was just featured in this month’s Home Companion Magazine.  I complimented her on the feature during set-up and she hadn’t even seen it yet!  I couldn’t believe it.  I happened to have the .

catching fireflies staff party

catching fireflies staff party
After a very long day of wrapping hundreds of gifts, the majority of our staff from the Berkley & Rochester locations gathered at our home for some libations, food and fun.  (that would be our slightly dramatic Berkley manager, Danielle laying on the couch) We played our annual steal or surprise gift game where some of the hot items of the night were Piston tickets, $100 c.f. gift card and a day of hooky .

reporting from the big bright light show

reporting from the big bright light show
I got a chance to chat with Dave LewAllen from Channel 7 News about Rochester’s Big Bright Light Show that kicked off Monday, November 26. Even though the original interview was about 5 minutes long and I talked all about catching fireflies and how wonderful it was to be part of downtown Rochester… they used my silly stuttering 15 seconds for the evening news broadcast. None the less… I do believe you got to .

rochester rocks the holiday season

rochester rocks the holiday season
Rochester has spirit – Yes they do!  The city kicked off their first of many holiday festivities this weekend with the Christkindlmarkt, a German/American Christmas Market that offered one-of-a-kind shopping, seasonal greens, live holiday entertainment, traditional food & drink, and great gifts for the holidays. It was a wonderful alternative to the hustle and bustle of 4am sales (can you believe they start that early now?), obnoxious lines and crazy behavior. Our little store .

cranbook house holiday table tour

cranbook house holiday table tour
Every year the historic Cranbrook House invites various designers to create festive table settings for their annual Holiday Tables Tour.  I was lucky enough to be asked and had great fun putting together a catching fireflies flavored table. I affectionately named my table, Sundae Celebration.  I crafted faux sundaes from Model Magic and put together candy-filled goody pails.  The hats and wands are handmade by another artist and will be available for purchase at .
