  1. I just love all of the trinkets and fun things you have on this website! One of my most favorites is the lavendar garden in a bag. I love the way lavendar smells and I love that I can grow it in my NYC apartment!

  2. SUNFLOWERS! i dig a trench by the fence and sprinkle several types of sunflower seeds along the whole trench. a few weeks later big, little, red, yellow and orange sunflowers grace my garden.
    sunflower trench=pure happiness. :-)

  4. How much fun is this?! We just moved to a house with a great yard. My two girls just finished planting their first real garden and are finally starting to see their reward…we’ve got sunflowers sprouting already. They can’t wait to get out there to pick tomatoes, peppers, herbs and if we are lucky our watermelon & pumpkin will grow.

  5. I love to grow potatoes — I’ve yet to taste a supermarket spud that rivals the taste of a freshly-dug potato from my own garden!

  10. I love planting trees from seed and watching them grow big and tall. My two boys and I gave my husband a tree for Father’s Day a couple years ago that had started growing in our sandbox. They planted it together and it is so neat to watch it grow as our children do.

  11. My favorites to grow are for my cutting garden, so that I have flowers year round to place in vases around the house and bring nature inside. Zinnias, ranunculus, cosmos, Icelandic poppies, snapdragons.

  12. I love to grow lovely decorative grasses. I dont like to pick weeds so I got a bunch of lovely decorative large pots and each summer I plant several different varieties of tall flowy decorative grasses and put the pots all around my patio. Its lovely to sit out in the hot summer with a tall glass of iced tea and enjoy the pretty grasses waving in the wind…best part? NO WEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF!!!

  30. This beginner gardener loves ornamental grasses… they’re easy, can be split to spread the next season, and add some spunk to our house when viewed from the road.

  31. Zinnias, bright colorful flowers that last and last. This year I made a garden for my grandaughter complete with a vine and sunfower house.

  32. I love to grow lavender and lilacs because my favorite color is purple, and nothing beats their beautiful smell. I love tomatoes and cucumbers too. Growing them makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something that’s good for me.

  33. I love impatients. They are easy and long lasting. I am usually pulling them out at Halloween and they still look good.

  34. Red Geraniums — my mom always had them in her flower pots on the front porch of our house growing up and as a tribute to her memory, I have always had red geraniums in my front porch pots….and they ALWAYS grow so well and look beautiful….thanks mom : )

    Happy summer to everyone…MaryBeth

  40. When I was a little girl, my dad always had a vegetable garden that took up the entire backyard of our postage stamp sized lot. He planted every type of veggie imaginable. We helped weed, water and cultivate our family garden. We had a great appreciation of ‘fresh’ in our home, he didn’t let us pick the corn until the water was boilling! My dad gave us the best gift a parent can give a child, which is a love of all things “earth”. Today, I grow sunflowers and herbs with my children.

  41. I like to grow anything that will LIVE! :) I’ve got a bunch of seeds ready to go this year, so hopefully I’ll have a garden full of tomatoes, peppers, carrots, pumpkins and watermelons!

  42. So many things! Colleus are my favorite non flowering non edible…edible fruit is raspberries, ebible plant is basil or lavender, fav non scented flower is ranculus!

  43. I like flower gardening, and growing herbs in pots. Will be trying my hand at veggies this year!! I’ve shared this on fb and Twitter, too!

  44. At our house, our favorite item to grow are tomotoes – heirloom, beefsteak, cherry -you name it. When ripe, we send our three children out with baskets and let them do the picking. Truly a family event that we ALL love.

  45. My mother is my mentor and she would always tell me that the rule of thumb to planting flowers is after Mother’s Day (we’re pretty much guaranteed not to have frost in Michigan after late May). So it’s a family tradition that EVERY YEAR my brother and I always plant pansies with her on Mother’s Day (in her front yard), and I look forward to it all year. Pansies are my favorite to grow – not only because they are so adorable and easy to maintain, but they have a special meaning with memories to last a lifetime!
